The National Examination Council (NECO) released the results of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination on Thursday in Minna, Niger State, 55 days after the exams were conducted. The results revealed that 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55% of the 1,367,736 who sat for the exam, passed with five credits or more, including English and Mathematics.
NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, also stated that 1,147,597 candidates earned five credits or more regardless of their performance in English and Mathematics. He further revealed that 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of examination malpractice, a decrease from the 22,030 cases recorded in 2023.
Additionally, Wushishi reported that 40 schools across 17 states were found to have engaged in “Whole School (Mass) cheating.” These schools will be called in for discussions, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied. One school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition due to mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.
The Registrar also announced that 21 supervisors in 12 states have been recommended for blacklisting due to misconduct, including poor supervision, aiding and abetting cheating, extortion, negligence, and drunkenness.
A total of 1,376,423 candidates were registered for the examination, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females, with 2,267 of them being candidates with special needs. Wushishi advised candidates to check their results on the NECO website.
