Gombe State University ASUU Calls Off Strike
The Gombe State Government and the state university branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have successfully reached an agreement to end weeks of strike action prompted by several union demands.
The ASUU at the state university had declared a total and indefinite strike on September 11, 2024, halting all academic activities. However, following a series of meetings with the state government, an approval of N947 million was granted during an executive council meeting chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday. This fund is designated to address staff promotions and earned academic allowances.
With this development, academic activities are expected to resume in a few days, as preparations for the university’s reopening are already underway.
Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, speaking on behalf of the Governor, expressed optimism that the agreement reached through the signing of documents by both parties would promote a collaborative environment for uninterrupted teaching and learning at the state-owned university.
