A few hours before the start of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria, the organizers in Ondo State have withdrawn, citing concerns over a possible ethnic conflict.

The group, known as Concerned Revolutionary Youths, stated that the planned protest had already achieved some of its goals, and there was no need to risk chaos or violence. The protest, scheduled for August 1, aimed to give Nigerians a platform to express their grievances about the current hardships in the country.

Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, the state capital, the group’s State Secretary, Ogundipe Seyi Olaniyi, mentioned that prominent figures in the state had also advised against the protest. Ogundipe emphasized that the group was not influenced by financial incentives or intimidation.

“The planned protest has already accomplished some of its objectives, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken proactive steps to address many of the issues raised by the organizers,” he said. “We have informed our counterparts across the country of our decision to withdraw from the protest and continue engaging in dialogue with the government on the issues concerning Nigerians.”

He added that the group had also notified security agencies and relevant authorities of their decision not to participate in the protest.
