Three Teenage Girls Drown in Jigawa Pond

The statement reported that the incident occurred on Saturday around 11 a.m. when the three girls went to cut grass for their livestock near the pond.

“NSCDC personnel in the area received a distress call from members of the Tulla community at about 11:10 a.m. and promptly responded, arriving at the scene with the divisional disaster management officers for a rescue mission.

“Working alongside the community members, they were able to recover the bodies of the three young girls after approximately 30 minutes of search and rescue efforts,” the statement said.

The recovered bodies were immediately taken to the nearest health center, where they were pronounced dead.

According to the statement, the investigation revealed that the girls were cutting grass in the same area where they later drowned.

The bodies were handed over to their respective parents and have since been buried according to Islamic rites.

NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr. Muhammad Danjuma, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged parents to supervise their children closely, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall when ponds and rivers are overflowing, to prevent such tragedies.
