Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, who is facing money laundering charges, has alleged mistreatment by the Nigerian government.

In a viral video shared on Monday by SYMFONI, Gambaryan, seen using hand crutches, expressed frustration, claiming that staff of the Nigeria Correctional Service had abandoned him on government orders.

“This is messed up. He was told not to assist me. This is an order from the government. It’s a show. I am innocent,” he said.

Gambaryan’s remarks come after his recent arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja. On August 28, 2024, his lawyer, Mark Mordi, SAN, filed a bail application, which was opposed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Ekene Iheanacho. Iheanacho argued that Gambaryan did not have a serious health condition, noting that he had lived with a disk issue for 12 years before arriving in Nigeria.

Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, previously told NIGERIA NEWS 247, “This situation is completely unjust. My husband was unlawfully detained after being invited to Nigeria under false pretenses for a meeting.”

In April, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Gambaryan’s detention at Kuje prison pending the outcome of his bail hearing. Gambaryan, along with another Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla (now at large), was arrested in February on charges of money laundering and terrorism.
