DSS Denies Raiding Nigerian Labour Congress Headquarters in Abuja
The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed reports that its operatives raided the headquarters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.
The NLC had alleged that on Wednesday evening, armed men claiming to be from the DSS stormed their office, breaking in around 8:30 pm and making off with several documents. According to the NLC’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Benson Upah, the assailants ransacked the bookshop on the second floor, seizing hundreds of books and other publications.
The NLC claimed that the operatives were searching for “seditious materials” allegedly used during the #EndBadGovernance protests. However, the NLC noted that it could not immediately ascertain the full extent of the items taken during the raid.
In response, DSS Spokesperson Peter Afunanya denied the agency’s involvement in the incident, stating, “Please note that the Service (DSS) did not carry out any operation at the NLC office in Abuja.”
The NLC has condemned the incident as an “unlawful invasion” and demanded the immediate withdrawal of security operatives from its premises. The NLC expressed dismay, noting that even during military rule, their secretariat was never subjected to such an invasion.”
