ECOWAS Appoints Osinbajo to Lead Election Observation Mission in Côte d’Ivoire
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed former Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to lead its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.
According to a statement issued by the regional body, the election is scheduled for October 25, 2025, with the observation mission set to operate from October 19 to 29, 2025, in line with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
As Head of Mission, Osinbajo will lead a delegation of respected West African figures who will engage key stakeholders in Côte d’Ivoire to promote a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
“The team will also collaborate with international and domestic observer groups to assess the conduct of the polls,” the statement added.
ECOWAS said the deployment of the mission reflects its continued commitment to peace, stability, and democratic consolidation in the region.
The Côte d’Ivoire presidential election comes at a sensitive time for West Africa, as several member states prepare for crucial national elections amid rising concerns over political stability and governance.
