Emir Sanusi: Fulanis have faced severe attacks, isolation, and killings
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed his willingness to help resolve the ongoing Fulani crises in Nigeria by providing a lasting solution to the issues. While receiving the leadership of the Fulani group, Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria, led by Modibbo Jada at his palace on Tuesday, Sanusi emphasized the need for the government’s full support to successfully implement his strategy.
He stated, “The Federal Government must back my efforts to ensure success, as they possess the resources necessary to make my plan work, while I can contribute the ideas and methodologies needed to address the issue.”
Sanusi acknowledged the challenges faced by the Fulani people, saying, “Fulanis in Nigeria have endured severe attacks, isolation, killings, destruction, and cattle rustling. These challenges are widespread across the country, and urgent action is required to address them. However, it’s also true that some among the Fulanis have tarnished the reputation of the community, leading to the hardships they currently face.”
He stressed the importance of collaboration between the government and the Fulani community to find a permanent solution, particularly in conflicts with farmers and other criminal activities attributed to some members of the group. Sanusi expressed his readiness to support the government in achieving peace and prosperity for both Fulanis and Nigerians, adding that their suffering must end.
The leader of the Fulani group, Modibbo Jada, explained that they had come to the palace to pledge their loyalty to Emir Sanusi, who was previously appointed as their leader by the Lamido of Adamawa. He also highlighted the group’s extensive presence across all 36 states of Nigeria, adding that they believe Emir Sanusi can restore their community’s reputation and contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
