Emir Sanusi urges FG’s support to resolve Fulani crisis
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has expressed his willingness to mediate in the Fulani crises in Nigeria with the aim of finding a lasting solution.
During a meeting with the leadership of the Fulani group, Tapital Pulaku Njode Jam Nigeria, on Tuesday at his palace, Sanusi emphasized the need for the government to address the ongoing conflicts involving the Fulani community.
He stated, “A permanent solution can only be achieved if the Federal Government fully supports my mission. They possess the resources and authority to implement the strategy, while I will provide the necessary ideas and methodologies.”
Sanusi highlighted the heavy toll the Fulani have endured, including attacks, isolation, killings, and cattle rustling, which have affected them nationwide. He acknowledged that a few individuals among the Fulani have tarnished the community’s reputation, contributing to their current plight.
“This is the time for the government, alongside us, to find a permanent resolution to the conflicts, particularly between the Fulani and farmers, as well as addressing other criminal activities they are accused of,” he said.
The Emir expressed his readiness to assist the government in achieving peace and prosperity for the Fulani and all Nigerians, adding, “Their suffering must end, and together, we can accomplish this.”
The leader of the Fulani group, Madibo Jada, reaffirmed their support for Emir Sanusi, acknowledging his leadership and expressing confidence in his ability to restore the Fulani’s reputation and highlight their contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
