Ahead of the planned national protest in Nigeria due to economic hardship, Minister of Works David Umahi has announced that the South Eastern region will not participate. He urged the Igbo people to support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to revitalize the country. Umahi made this statement in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, during a stakeholders’ engagement on the Ebonyi State segment of the Cross River-South East-North Central-Apo Abuja 6-lane superhighway project.

He emphasized that the current administration is taking tough decisions to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, which are a result of years of neglect. Umahi encouraged Nigerians to support the government’s legacy projects, including the coastal highway, which promises significant economic benefits. He warned against divisive actions and encouraged unity.

Umahi stated that Nigerians are paying for years of neglect, but President Tinubu is taking bold steps to restore the country’s lost glory. He cautioned against fanning the embers of division, emphasizing that it is a waste of time. Umahi urged the South East region to avoid sit-at-home protests, which he believes are economically harmful and self-destructive.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the coastal highway, which will facilitate trade, investment, tourism, railway development, agriculture, and other economic programs. He emphasized that the project is not just a road but an investment that will boost the economy. Umahi encouraged support for the government’s legacy projects, inherited from previous administrations.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State expressed appreciation for the project’s benefits and commended Umahi for his infrastructure development efforts. He praised President Tinubu for the federal roads in the state and committed to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.

National Assembly members, including Senators Nwebonyi, Uguru, and Ndubueze, attended the event and delivered goodwill messages. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a legacy project that will bring significant economic benefits to the region.
