PHOTOS: Sanwo-Olu Hosts Dinner in Honor of Soyinka’s 90th Birthday
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hosted a dinner at the State House on Tuesday to celebrate the 90th birthday of Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka. During the event, Sanwo-Olu unveiled a special portrait honoring the renowned playwright and novelist.
Sanwo-Olu shared photos from the memorable evening on X.com, stating, “Tonight, we had the privilege of celebrating the 90th birthday of our esteemed Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka. It was an evening filled with joy, reflections, and inspiration as we acknowledged his profound contributions to literature and discussed how his humanity continues to inspire us all.”
Highlighting the occasion, he added, “The unveiling of a special portrait of Prof. Soyinka was a poignant tribute to his enduring legacy.”
Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude to Soyinka, remarking, “We celebrate not only his 90 years of life but also the countless lives he has inspired and continues to inspire. His Nobel Prize win many years ago paved the way for others to dream and believe in the attainability of greatness. His literary works transcend time, touching hearts and minds globally.”
He concluded with admiration, “Thank you, Professor Wole Soyinka, for demonstrating that through resilience, creativity, and dedication, greatness can indeed be achieved.”
President Bola Tinubu described the Nobel Laureate, who turned 90 on Saturday, July 13, as a shining light and national treasure.
