Protesters ask Tinubu: “You tell us every time to endure, for how long?”
Protests are erupting in major cities nationwide as the long-awaited hunger strike kicks off today. Participants are seen holding signs and shouting slogans, with images and clips rapidly spreading across social media platforms.
In a video posted by the news outlet Oxygist, a protester named Emmanuel articulated his motivations for joining the movement. Today marks a day of hunger, he stated.
Hunger has driven me to this point. The insecurity we face has pushed me out here too. I can’t afford to buy fuel. If our demands go unaddressed, we will continue to protest in the streets. We refuse to remain silent, he declared.
An anonymous protester appealed to the President, stating, Mr. President, the struggles we face are overwhelming. Life is difficult in this country.
You continuously urge us to be patient. But for how long must we endure? Signs displaying messages like Say no to hardship and #EndBadGovernance were prominently featured in the footage.
In Lagos, protesters were heard singing “End Bad Governance”, while a group in Port Harcourt, as reported by AIT, performed the old national anthem.
Meanwhile, demonstrators in Abuja chanted revolutionary songs. The protests, sparked by ongoing economic difficulties, are anticipated to persist until August 10, 2024.
