1. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) stated on Sunday that President Bola Tinubu’s stance on the N62,000 minimum wage agreed upon by the Federal Government and the Organised Private Sector will influence the next steps of organised labour. NLC President Joe Ajaero disclosed this in an interview in Abuja.

2. President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe as the interim Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), pending confirmation by the NCCC Supervisory Council. This was announced on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

3. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates have been declared winners of all chairmanship and councillorship seats in the recent local government election in Yobe State. Dr. Mamman Muhammad, Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOIEC), made the announcement on Saturday at the commission’s headquarters in Damaturu.

4. State governments are preparing to eliminate electricity subsidies in their regions as more states plan to operate their own power markets under their laws. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum revealed that states will implement different electricity tariffs within their domains.

5. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party has stated that it was not offended by the outburst of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over the creation of the Obidient Movement directorate. The NWC affirmed that Obi has the right to express his grievances and there are no plans to relieve him of his leadership role within the party.

6. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a shipment of 175,000 bottles of codeine from India en route to Enugu State on Friday, following a similar seizure in Rivers State the previous week. The agency also arrested a Nigerien for concealing drugs in pesticide tanks and detained 19 others in various raids across the country.

7. Approximately 30 travelers, including students from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, were reportedly kidnapped by suspected kidnappers along the Abuja-Nasarawa Highway on Friday. The kidnappers ambushed the vehicles and abducted the travelers into a nearby bush in the Uke area of Nasarawa State.

8. The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping gang terrorizing the FCT and its environs. FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh announced on Sunday that the suspects were apprehended on Friday following a raid on their hideouts in the Gidan Dogo and Kweti Forest in Kaduna State, near the FCT border.

9. The Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Board announced the death of two pilgrims in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Executive Secretary Abdulsalam Abdulkadir expressed deep regret over the events and submitted to the decree and ultimate knowledge of Allah in all affairs.

10. Chief Francis Inegbeniki, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and State Vice Chairman in Edo State, has resigned from the party. In his resignation letter addressed to his Ward Chairman of Opoji, Esan Central Local Government Area, dated June 8, 2024, Inegbeniki cited recent developments in the party that conflicted with his principles and values.
