1. Southern governors on Monday advocated for state police, arguing that it would provide them with greater control over security decisions. They emphasized that locals, familiar with the terrain and language, are better suited to combat crime.

2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu explained that his appointments of Northerners to key defense positions were due to their regional expertise in addressing insecurity.
