Ondo PDP Denies Electing a new Chairman
The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims of electing a new chairman following the passing of Fatai Adams. In a statement released in Akure on Monday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ikantu Peretei, it was clarified that Mr. Tola Alabere, the Deputy Chairman, has been serving as Acting Chairman since Adams’ demise on February 14.
Peretei emphasized that the current tenure of the State Executive Committee will conclude on August 3. He stated, “The PDP Ondo State chapter wishes to clarify that no new state chairman has been elected to replace the late Chairman, Fatai Adams.”
He further pointed out the provisions of the PDP Constitution 2017 as amended, particularly Article 47(6), which outlines the process for filling vacancies due to death or removal. Peretei condemned what he termed as a “fake congratulatory message” circulating without an identifiable source, describing it as unconstitutional and designed to sow discord.
He concluded by asserting that such misinformation undermines efforts to unify support for the PDP Governorship Candidate, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, ahead of the November election.
