Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has responded to Kenneth Okonkwo’s recent departure from the party and the Obidient Movement.

NIGERIA NEWS 247 reported on Sunday that Okonkwo, who served as the spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign in the 2023 election, announced his resignation from both the party and the Obidient Movement. Okonkwo attributed his decision largely to Peter Obi’s handling of the ongoing crisis within the party.

Peter Obi’s spokesman, Yunusa Tanko, told DAILY POST on Monday that he had sought Obi’s reaction to Okonkwo’s decision. Obi expressed that Okonkwo is not considered a mole within the Obidient family but rather a beloved brother.

“Following the announcement by Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesperson of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organization in the 2023 election, that he was leaving both the Labour Party and the Obidients, I contacted our principal Obi for his reaction.

“He told me he was saddened by the development because he views Okonkwo as a junior brother who played his role diligently during our campaign. Obi stated that Okonkwo cannot be labeled a mole in our family given the services he rendered and continues to render in our struggle to create a new Nigeria.

“When I asked Obi if I could make his views on Okonkwo public, he agreed, saying the public needs to know that there is no personal misunderstanding between us and Okonkwo, only a disagreement based on style and approach to problems.”
