Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed openness to working with other politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an interview with News Central, Obi mentioned his willingness to collaborate with figures such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Obi clarified that any potential collaboration must focus on improving the lives of citizens, rather than solely on winning elections.

“I’m ready to collaborate with anyone who is interested in lifting people out of poverty. If the collaboration is just for state capture or to win an election, I will not be part of it,” Obi stated.

He emphasized that his priority is on ensuring that initiatives aim to improve education and reduce poverty, rather than political gain.

When asked about serving as vice president, Obi stated that if he encountered someone more capable of leading Nigeria effectively, he would be open to taking on the role, reiterating that he is not desperate for the presidency.

“I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work. If someone else can do the job better, I will step back,” he added.

Obi also confirmed that he has no plans to leave the Labour Party, saying, “Yes, I would stay here. If anyone approaches us for collaboration, they must clearly state their purpose.”
