Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez was involved in an altercation with Colombia fans following his team’s defeat in the Copa America on Wednesday night.

Uruguay lost 1-0 to Colombia in the Copa America semi-final, with Jefferson Lerma scoring the only goal of the match in the first half.

After Mexican referee Cesar Ramos blew the final whistle, Nunez and his teammate Ronald Araujo were among the Uruguay players who rushed over to a section of Colombia fans at the Bank of America Stadium.

Nunez was seen exchanging punches with Colombia supporters before police intervened to separate the groups.

Uruguay captain Jose Gimenez later explained that his teammates got involved because their families, who were seated near the Colombia supporters, were in danger during the match.

“Please, I ask you to be careful. Families are in the stands. Our families are in danger. This is a disaster,” Gimenez told Directv.
