Manchester United have identified a potential successor to Erik ten Hag, should the Dutchman depart.
Ten Hag is facing mounting pressure due to Manchester United’s disappointing start to the season. According to The Mirror, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is contemplating a change and has earmarked former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as a possible replacement.
United finished eighth in the Premier League last season and were eliminated from their Champions League group. Despite a brief reprieve after winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City, Ten Hag’s position remains precarious. The club’s decision to retain him was made by the revamped board, but poor performances this season have increased the scrutiny on him.
Following a narrow 1-0 victory over Fulham, Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton and were then heavily beaten by Liverpool at Old Trafford. This lackluster form has intensified calls for a managerial change.
Zidane, who has been out of management since 2021, remains a highly sought-after coach. Besides Manchester United, he is also a leading candidate to replace Didier Deschamps as the France national team manager.
