Foot injury rules out Man Utd’s new signing Yoro, along with three others
Manchester United’s preseason has been marred by injuries to key players, raising concerns as the new season approaches.
The club has confirmed four injuries during their tour, with two players facing extended absences. New signing Leny Yoro is expected to be sidelined for about three months due to a foot injury. The 18-year-old defender, who recently joined United from Lille for £58.9 million, was injured during a friendly against Arsenal. The club stated, “Yoro has chosen to stay with the team on tour, with further evaluation scheduled upon his return to the UK.”
Striker Rasmus Højlund will miss six weeks with a hamstring injury. Although initially thought to be minor, the club confirmed, “Højlund scored against Arsenal but left the game in the 16th minute and will also miss the season’s start.”
The injury list expanded during United’s 3-2 win over Real Betis, with Marcus Rashford and Antony both substituted due to injuries. Rashford seemed to injure his right ankle, while Antony was withdrawn with a hand issue. Tom Heaton described both substitutions as “precautionary.”
These injuries pose a significant challenge for United’s season start. Sky Sports News senior reporter Melissa Reddy remarked, “It’s a major setback for Erik ten Hag’s plans and underscores the need for reinforcements in defense.”
The club faces a race to get players fit for their upcoming fixtures, including the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10, the Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16, and a high-profile clash with Liverpool on September 1, with Højlund potentially still out.
