Paris 2024 Olympics: Super Falcons Kick Off Medal Quest Against Brazil
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will kick off their pursuit of an Olympic podium finish at the 2024 Games by facing Brazil in their opening Group C match today. The match is scheduled for 6 PM at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux.
This marks the Super Falcons’ return to the Olympics after a 16-year hiatus. Today’s clash will be the third encounter between Nigeria and Brazil, with Brazil having won the previous two meetings: 4-3 at the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 3-1 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Brazilian squad will be spearheaded by the legendary Marta, who boasts an impressive record of 118 goals in 183 appearances for her country. In addition to Brazil, the Super Falcons will also compete against current world champions Spain and former champions Japan in their group.
Randy Waldrum’s side enters the tournament after a narrow 1-0 loss to Canada in their only friendly leading up to the Olympics.
