According to a feature tracker, WhatsApp for Android might be testing a new gesture functionality aimed at speeding up message reactions.

This anticipated feature is thought to allow users to respond quickly by double-tapping messages, potentially bringing up a default emoji.

It expands on an earlier reported feature that could let users swiftly react to media, like photos and videos, directly from the media viewer interface.

WABetaInfo, a tracker for WhatsApp beta features, has reported that a new option for quickly reacting to messages has been identified in the Android beta version 2.24.16.7 of the app.

Once this feature is fully launched, users will have the ability to react to messages simply by double-tapping them. According to the tracker, a default heart emoji will be used for these reactions, mirroring similar functionalities found in other Meta Platforms applications such as Instagram and Facebook.

This change is expected to streamline the reaction process; instead of needing to press and hold a message to choose the heart emoji, users can just double-tap it instead.

However, it’s important to note that this double-tap reaction feature is currently only accessible to beta testers since it remains under development.

Therefore, only those who are part of the Google Play Beta program and using the latest version of WhatsApp for Android may have access at this time.

The tech team at Nigeria News 247 was unable to confirm whether this feature is available in the WhatsApp Android beta app yet.

Other Features

Alongside its prompt message responses, WhatsApp is said to be working on a variety of new features, such as live voice message transcription and real-time message translation.

Moreover, the platform’s AI chatbot, known as Meta AI, is being enhanced with additional capabilities like broader language support, Imagine Edit, and Imagine Me. It will also allow users to experiment with Llama 3.1 405B, the latest AI model from the company.

According to Meta, this new model is more adept at addressing intricate queries and solving advanced mathematical problems.
