Shelby Daniele, a graduate of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo and a former medallist at the Fresno State Invitational, has tragically passed away.
Buchanan High School in Clovis, CA, where Daniele once attended, announced her death on September 26, 2024. The cause has not been disclosed.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Shelby Daniele’s passing. She was a standout track athlete at Century, Alta Sierra, and Buchanan High Schools,” the Buchanan Track & Field page stated. It highlighted her many achievements, including winning the 200-meter title at the CA State Meet in May 2019.
“Shelby was an incredible athlete, but she will be remembered as an even more remarkable person. We’ll always cherish the moments she took to visit us at the track when she was back in town. This loss leaves a tremendous void in many hearts,” the post continued.
After graduating in 2019, Daniele attended Cal Poly, earning a degree in agriculture in spring 2023. During her college career, she set several records, including being the school record holder in the women’s indoor 200 meters (24.69) and ranking No. 2 all-time in both the indoor 60 meters (7.62) and the women’s 100 meters (11.58), as well as No. 3 in the outdoor 200 meters (23.57).
In 2021, she placed second in the 200 meters at the Big West Conference Championships with a time of 24.57, finished third in the 100 meters at 11.92, and came in second in the 200 meters at the Fresno State Invitational with a time of 24.40. Daniele was a five-time All-Big West honoree.
