The Mastercard Foundation Appoints Carole Wainaina to Board of Directors

The Mastercard Foundation has appointed Carole Wainaina to its Board of Directors. With a career spanning 35 years across multinational corporations and multilateral organizations, Wainaina brings extensive experience to the role.

Zein Abdalla, Chair of the Board of Directors at the Mastercard Foundation, expressed excitement about Wainaina joining the board, emphasizing her global networks, deep knowledge of the African continent, and her valuable experience in both public and private sectors.Wainaina, currently serving as Senior Advisor to the CEO at Africa50 and holding Non-Executive Director roles in various organizations, expressed her enthusiasm for contributing to the Foundation’s mission.

She highlighted the importance of advancing education, financial inclusion, and creating opportunities for young people in Africa and Indigenous youth in Canada.Throughout her distinguished career, Wainaina has served as COO of Africa50, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources at the United Nations, and held board positions in philanthropic organizations such as Impact International and Harvard Business School Africa Research Board. Her appointment underscores the Foundation’s commitment to fostering inclusive economies and stronger communities through impactful initiatives.
