Trump Appears at Republican Convention with Bandaged Ear Following Assassination Attempt
Donald Trump received an enthusiastic reception on Monday as he appeared at the Republican National Convention, his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt over the weekend with a bandaged right ear.
Having secured the formal nomination as the Republican presidential candidate and introduced Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate, Trump entered Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum accompanied by aides, acknowledging cheers from supporters on the convention’s opening day. He did not speak immediately but was visibly moved by the overwhelming applause from the packed venue as country singer Lee Greenwood’s patriotic anthem “God Bless the USA” played.
Illinois delegate Susan Sweeney shared her awe: “It was absolutely amazing. I mean, just thinking what he’s been through, and to come here today because he cares.”
The highlight of the day came when Trump announced Vance, 39, as his vice presidential pick, receiving thunderous applause from the Republican crowd. Vance, once a vocal critic turned staunch supporter of Trump, aligns closely with the former president’s America First agenda and holds conservative views, particularly on issues like abortion.
Despite legal challenges and impeachments clouding his first term, Trump, 78, remains confident about his chances for a comeback to the White House, contrasting sharply with President Joe Biden’s struggles with sinking poll numbers and health concerns within his own party.
The convention, attended by 50,000 Republicans, unfolded against the backdrop of the recent assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania, an incident expected to dominate discussions throughout the event.
Trump, preparing to deliver a speech at the convention, shelved a harsh critique of Biden’s administration in favor of a message aimed at national unity, a departure from his earlier rhetoric urging supporters to “fight.”
As the convention progresses, Trump’s campaign continues to project strength despite ongoing legal battles, positioning himself against Biden’s policies which, according to Trump, favor wealthy corporations at the expense of middle-class Americans.
