Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has joined the call for President Joe Biden to exit the presidential race.

Pelosi has reportedly informed her Democratic colleagues that the President might soon be persuaded to step down. According to the Washington Post, Pelosi has taken a prominent role in conveying House Democrats’ concerns to the White House.

She is expressing doubts about Biden’s ability to defeat his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, in November. Pelosi believes Biden is nearing a decision to end his campaign.

Having played a key role in preventing Trump from winning in 2016 and helping Biden to the White House, Pelosi is now reportedly leading the renewed pressure on Biden to withdraw from his re-election bid.

Although Biden has insisted he will represent the Democratic Party in November, he is reportedly questioning negative polling data and whether Vice-President Kamala Harris, considered the favorite to replace him if he withdraws, would perform better.

These developments come after the President tested positive for Covid-19, forcing him into isolation for several days and curtailing a campaign visit to Nevada, part of an effort to show his candidacy remains active.

This coincides with new polling data showing Trump leading by two points in Virginia, a state Biden won by 10 points in 2020. The data indicates Biden’s support has declined in swing states since his poor performance at last month’s debate in Atlanta.
