Abia State Govt Warns Against Fake Eye Practitioners Exploiting Vulnerable Citizens
The Abia State government has warned residents, particularly in rural areas, to avoid quacks posing as legitimate eye care practitioners.
The government disclosed that many people with eye problems have been taken advantage of by these quacks, who exploit their lack of awareness by recommending harmful substances for treatment.
The warning was issued by Dr. Betty Emeka-Obasi, Administrator of the Abia State Eye Health Management Bureau, during a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia. The briefing followed the recent executive council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Dr. Emeka-Obasi also announced plans for a symposium on October 9 in Umuahia to mark World Sight Day. She emphasized that ignorance remains a leading cause of avoidable blindness in the state. “Those who have been exploited by quacks can come and see the professionals,” she urged.
