Armed Invaders Attack Benue Community; Residents Flee as Security Forces Repel Assault
Several residents of communities in Moon Council Ward, Turan District, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, have reportedly fled their homes and farms following an attack by heavily armed invaders.
The assailants targeted farmlands, using firearms to chase away farmers and displace numerous residents. The attack, which began around 4 p.m. on Saturday, forced many to escape for safety.
A local villager described the incident, saying the invasion caused widespread panic and displacement. One victim, Aondohemba Ahua, stated that the invaders were eventually repelled by joint security forces and local vigilantes who mounted strong resistance.
Due to the difficult terrain and poor road infrastructure in the area, the exact number of casualties remains unknown.
The Benue Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.
However, a security officer familiar with the situation, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the attack occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in Anyiase, the sparsely populated headquarters of Moon Council.
The officer added that local vigilantes, supported by security personnel stationed in the area, successfully drove back the attackers.
