Benue Travellers Escape Deadly Ambush by Suspected Armed Herdsmen
Two passenger vehicles traveling from Benue State to Jigawa State narrowly escaped a deadly ambush by suspected armed herdsmen in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025.
One of the survivors, Miss Eunice Umbur Ikide—known on Facebook as Umbur Gever—recounted the terrifying experience in a post on her social media page. According to her, the attackers struck suddenly, but the quick reflexes of both drivers prevented what could have been a mass killing.
“Two vehicles from Benue were attacked by Fulani men early hours of today on our way to Jigawa State—one Flight bus and another bus, the one in the picture,” she wrote. “But God so kind and our drivers so smart, we escaped. Guys, we need your prayers. We, the Benue people, are no longer safe in Nigeria. I, Eunice Umbur Ikide, myself, am one of the victims… God have mercy on us.”
The incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks in parts of Nigeria, particularly targeting travelers and communities in Benue and surrounding regions. There has been no official response from security agencies at the time of this report.
Calls for increased security and protection for road travelers have intensified in recent months amid growing insecurity in several parts of the country.
