Benue Women Protest

Women from the Agan community in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, staged a peaceful protest on Friday over the growing insecurity in their area.

The demonstrators, armed with leaves and chanting protest songs, blocked the federal highway near the Agan toll gate to draw attention to their plight.

Speaking to Nigeria News 247, a resident named Torkwase confirmed that the protest was still ongoing as of Friday afternoon and had remained peaceful.

“The protest is happening now at Agan ward, close to the toll gate,” she said via telephone. “It’s about the insecurity in our community. We are tired and want the government to take urgent action.”
