FCT Police Foil Late-Night Robbery in Apo Resettlement, One Dead, Two Injured

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command thwarted a robbery attempt late Sunday night in the Zone E Extension area of Apo Resettlement, Abuja, resulting in one death and two injuries.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred around 10:30 PM after a distress call from a commercial motorcyclist reported heavy gunfire in the area. The Apo Division’s Police Officer, CSP Uchenna Igwebuike, swiftly deployed Ambush and Surveillance Teams, which engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle.

A reinforcement team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Isyaku Sharu, arrived and forced the attackers to flee into nearby hills. A joint manhunt involving police and local vigilantes is ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

Three victims were rescued; all sustained injuries and were taken to Sahad Hospital for treatment. One later died, with the remains held at the hospital morgue. A light green Toyota Corolla linked to the victims was recovered at the scene.

Commissioner of Police CP Ajao S. Adewale extended condolences to the deceased’s family and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety. Residents were urged to report anyone with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries to the police using emergency numbers 08032003913 or 08028940883 and to continue supporting efforts against crime.
