The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, which occurred in the early hours of Monday.

In a statement, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, conveyed the commission’s heartfelt condolences to the Kebbi State Government, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and the people of Kebbi State.

Garba said UBEC stands with Nigerians in mourning the devastating incident and shares in the grief of families whose lives have been shattered by the attack.

She described the vice principal who was killed during the incident as “a brave soul who made the ultimate sacrifice while doing what teachers across our nation do every day—caring for and protecting our children.” She also offered prayers for the injured staff member and all those affected, assuring them that they are not alone in their pain, fear, and hopes.

Garba reaffirmed UBEC’s commitment to working with government partners, community leaders, security agencies, and state SUBEBs—including Kebbi SUBEB—to strengthen school security, support affected communities, and ensure that no child’s education is disrupted by violence.

“Today, we mourn alongside Kebbi State. We stand together in grief, solidarity, and unwavering resolve to keep our schools safe spaces for learning,” she said.
