Security Operatives Rescue 13 Abducted Benue Links Passengers
Thirteen passengers abducted in Benue State have been rescued, NIGERIA NEWS 247 reports. The passengers were taken hostage at Eke in Okpokwu Local Government Area.
The Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Adah Inalegwu, confirmed the rescue on Sunday, revealing that a joint operation between the police and local vigilantes led to the release of two abductees on Saturday.
Inalegwu explained that local youths collaborated with counterparts from neighboring Kogi State to apply pressure on the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon the remaining eleven victims at Oando village around 4:00 pm on Sunday.
He further credited the timely provision of logistics by Governor Hyacinth Alia, alongside enhanced security surveillance and tracking efforts, for the successful rescue.
The rescued passengers are currently being profiled before they are reunited with their families.
When contacted, Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said, “I don’t have that information right now but will get back when I do.”
