Chris Smith, Chairman of the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa, has said that the designation of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC) was made in good faith.

Smith made the comments on Sunday during an interview on ‘Inside Sources’ with Laolu Akande, a programme on Channels Television monitored by NIGERIA NEWS 247.

The US lawmaker urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against terrorists responsible for destroying lives and property across Nigeria. “My view is that he has to act… And do it not for us; do it for your own people. They deserve better than looking the other way as all of this happens,” Smith said.

He also criticized Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, for downplaying recent killings in a television interview, challenging him to speak the truth and confront the ongoing violence.

Smith emphasized that Nigerians deserve better protection and accountability from their leadership in the face of the country’s worsening security challenges.
