Senator Titus Zam, representing Benue North West, has condemned the recent wave of targeted and unprovoked killings in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State. He highlighted that travelers along the Makurdi-Naka and Naka-Agabgbe roads have fallen victim to attacks by suspected Fulani herders, who have caused chaos in several communities.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Assistant for Media, Mr. Terungwa Nunde, Zam expressed his frustration that, despite the persistent efforts of National Assembly members to urge both federal and state governments to assist constituents, the killings continue unabated. He also noted the increasing severity of these attacks.

Zam believes that his proposed bill promoting ranching and prohibiting open grazing in Nigeria, currently awaiting public hearing in the National Assembly, is essential for addressing this crisis.

He called on Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia to take action against insecurity in the state and to work closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Zam emphasized that National Assembly members have mobilized the legislative branch to cooperate with the federal government, which has begun to allocate necessary resources to tackle security issues in the state.

Zam urged relevant security agencies to enhance their efforts in dealing with the urgent situation, which has led to significant loss of life, including that of children, women, and the elderly.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to the people of Gwer West, especially to families affected by the violence, and encouraged vigilance and collaboration with security forces to restore peace in the region.
