Abia Free of Lassa Fever, Cholera, Monkeypox – Health Commissioner
The Abia State Government has reassured residents that there have been no recent cases of public health diseases reported across the state.
Speaking after this week’s Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Okey Kanu, stated that diseases such as Lassa Fever, Monkeypox, Cholera, Yellow Fever, and Diphtheria have not been detected in the state during the current monitoring period.
Dr. Kanu attributed the positive development to an improvement in hygienic practices among residents.
“There have been no reported cases in the state during the period under review,” he confirmed.
He also revealed that over 1,000 applications have been received for the 771 healthcare job openings approved by the governor. The positions include roles for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical professionals.
In addition, the state has procured a wheelchair-accessible bus to support the transportation needs of physically-challenged athletes.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information announced that Governor Otti plans to host Abia-born players of the Super Falcons, who recently returned to their European clubs, in recognition of their achievements later this year.
