FCT: Police apprehend suspected armed robbery kingpin, Chukwuemeka Oputa, along with four others.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended Chukwuemeka Oputa, also known as ‘Pounds and Dollar’, from Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State, who is believed to be the ringleader of a gang responsible for a string of armed robberies and other criminal activities in the nation’s capital.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrest took place on April 4, 2024, following the capture of Moses Hassan, a cultist and member of the armed robbery gang, on February 14, 2024, in Idda, Kogi State.
Additional gang members, including Praise Etta from Etung, Cross River State; Rafael Dav, also known as Raffy, from Guma, Benue State; and Thomas Akange from Markudi, Benue State, were also apprehended by police operatives.
The seized exhibits include four locally fabricated AK47 rifles, three homemade rifles utilizing cartridges, an English pistol, a homemade pistol, a Dane gun, three AK47 ammunitions, a 5.56mm assault ammunition, and an empty cartridge.
The suspects have confessed to their involvement in numerous armed robberies and other crimes in the FCT and are also associated with the Viking confraternity cult group, as stated by the PPRO.
