Kebbi Police Warn Against Protests Over Abducted Schoolgirls, Cite Fragile Security Situation
The Kebbi State Police Command has cautioned groups and non-governmental organisations against holding any protest in response to the recent abduction at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.
In a statement issued on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer Nafiu Abubakar urged organisers to suspend their planned demonstrations, stressing that the current security climate is too delicate for public gatherings.
According to the Command, such protests could heighten tension, trigger chaos, and potentially undermine ongoing rescue operations aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted students. While acknowledging the widespread public concern, the police described the planned action as “misguided and counterproductive.”
The police assured residents that maintaining peace and safeguarding lives remain top priorities. They also encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious movements to the nearest security formation.
The warning follows the attack on the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, where armed men killed the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, and kidnapped several female students. Witnesses said the attackers operated unhindered, leaving the community in panic. Makuku was reportedly shot while attempting to shield the students from harm.
