John Okiyi Kalu, former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, has insisted that Stephen Ucheonye Akachukwu, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, suffered a broken head during an altercation with the House Majority Leader, Uchenna Okoro Kalu.

In a statement on Wednesday, Okiyi accused Akachukwu of lying to the public by denying the fight took place, demanding his resignation.

  • Okiyi claimed that the injury was inflicted in August 2025 at a Labour Party legislators’ caucus meeting in Aba.

  • He said Akachukwu started the fight by throwing a drink at Okoro in anger.

  • The injury, according to Okiyi, was caused not by a beer bottle but by a whisky glass cup.

  • He refuted claims that the pictures and videos circulating online were AI-generated, stating Akachukwu himself took the photos and sent them to Governor Alex Otti.

  • Okiyi challenged Akachukwu to present himself for medical examination by the Nigeria Medical Association (Abia State branch) and the press to verify the injury.

  • He condemned accusations against the opposition for allegedly posting AI-generated images.
