In a statement released on Thursday, Afenifere stressed the importance of establishing the truth behind the claims to uphold justice and fairness. The group emphasized that resolving the matter transparently would help restore Nigeria’s reputation, particularly as it has drawn international attention.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, previously accused Senate President Akpabio of sexual harassment. In response, the Senate suspended her for six months, citing a breach of its Rules of Procedure.

Following the expiration of her suspension, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has resumed her legislative duties at the National Assembly.

Afenifere, which had earlier urged a thorough examination of the allegations, reiterated its position in light of her reinstatement. The group insisted that the matter should not be swept under the rug.

“We at Afenifere received the Senate’s decision to lift the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan with mixed feelings,” the statement read. “To us, reinstating her should not mean that her allegations be ignored without subjecting them to proper judicial interpretation.”

The organization called on the AGF, the Senate, and relevant security agencies to investigate the case thoroughly and uncover the truth, stating that only a fair and transparent process can ensure justice and maintain the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
