Benue Assembly Holds Valedictory Session in Honour of Late Chief Audu Ogbeh
The Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday held a valedictory session to honour the life and legacy of Chief Audu Ogbeh, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Assembly’s first Deputy Speaker from 1979 to 1982.
The event, which took place in Makurdi, drew political dignitaries and former lawmakers who gathered to pay tribute to the late elder statesman, who passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 78.
Representing Governor Hyacinth Alia at the session, Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode described Chief Ogbeh as a man of vision, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public service.
“Chief Ogbeh was a workaholic and a playwright who carried the name of Benue with pride,” Alia said. “He demonstrated uncommon leadership qualities and served the people justly. His legacy embodies dedication, commitment to justice, and national progress.”
Speaker of the Assembly, Alfred Emberga, hailed the late Ogbeh as a model legislator whose service was rooted in advocacy and the welfare of his constituents.
“Chief Ogbeh was a shining example of legislative excellence,” Emberga noted. “All his motions in the House focused on the welfare and development of his people. He was vocal, effective, and selfless in his service — qualities that should inspire us all.”
Also present at the session were former Deputy Governor Chief Steven Lawani, along with former Assembly members and other stakeholders, all of whom reflected on Ogbeh’s substantial contributions to politics and governance in Benue and Nigeria at large.
Chief Audu Ogbeh’s public service spanned decades, including roles as Minister of Agriculture, PDP National Chairman, and a pioneering legislator. He is remembered not only for his political accomplishments but also for his moral clarity and commitment to national development.
