CAN Calls for Temporary Closure of Schools Amid Rising Insecurity
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, has advised all Christian-based schools on the outskirts of Kaduna to either close temporarily or operate as day schools to protect students from potential bandit attacks.
Rev. Caleb Ma’aji, the state chairman of CAN, made the call following escalating insecurity and the recent abductions of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger States, as well as other parts of the country.
Speaking to NIGERIA NEWS 247 in Kaduna, Ma’aji urged schools in rural areas to remain vigilant, noting, “Alternatively, if need be, schools on the outskirts of Kaduna metropolis should be closed for now to ensure the safety of students until the security situation improves in the country.”
He also called on the government to implement measures to safeguard students nationwide, stressing that incidents like those in Kebbi and Niger must not be repeated.
Ma’aji expressed sympathy with the people and governments of Kebbi and Niger States over the abduction of students, teachers, and others, praying for the safe return of all kidnapped children. He encouraged parents to remain hopeful and look to God for protection.
Highlighting the broader implications of insecurity, he urged all levels of government to act decisively to ensure the safety of Nigerians, stating, “The renewed attacks by bandits in different parts of the country are disturbing and alarming. Nigerians deserve a conducive environment to go about their businesses, achieve a better standard of living, and showcase their potentials.”
