DUFUTH celebrates Senator David Umahi at 62 with free medical care

To celebrate the 62nd birthday of its founder, Senator David Umahi, the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, organized a large-scale medical outreach that provided free healthcare services to over 1,000 residents.

According to Akpan Mayen & Njoku Ogadinma from the Information and Public Relations Department, DUFUTH, the event was held at the Eke Aja Market in Uburu, which was a collaborative initiative between DUFUTH, the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), and the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA). It featured a wide range of services, including blood sugar testing, cervical cancer screening, eye examinations, deworming, nutritional education, and the distribution of medications and medical supplies.

The outreach drew participation from various dignitaries, including political leaders, captains of industry, traditional rulers, and religious figures. Many beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude and offered prayers for Senator Umahi during interviews with the DUFUTH media team.

The event was coordinated on-site by the hospital’s Chief Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) and Deputy Chief Medical Advisory Committee (DCMAC), ensuring the smooth execution of all activities. All attendees were successfully screened and provided with necessary medications at no cost.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Professor Uzoma, the CMAC Chairman, Dr. Darlington Peter Ugoji, praised Senator Umahi for his visionary leadership in establishing DUFUTH. He described the facility as a “state-of-the-art medical institution that rivals many across the country,” adding that the current administration aims to reverse brain drain by creating meaningful opportunities for healthcare professionals within the local system.

“Senator Umahi has given us the platform to serve and build our land. We must not fail to make Uburu a better place,” Dr. Ugoji emphasized.

He also noted that the outreach was designed to raise healthcare awareness, reduce medical expenses for residents, and help combat maternal mortality in the region.
