Eid-el-Kabir: Police Deploy Explosive Experts to FCT Prayer Grounds and Beyond
In a statement issued on Friday, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, announced proactive measures ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to maintain peace in the FCT.
Adeh emphasized that the command would conduct raids on identified black spots and uncompleted buildings/shanties, among other locations. These efforts are aimed at ensuring a peaceful environment before, during, and after the celebration.
She stated, “The FCT Police Command has proactively deployed both material and human resources across the capital city to ensure residents enjoy a peaceful and serene atmosphere during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. This deployment includes visibility policing, the presence of EOD experts and personnel at prayer grounds, recreational and event centers, as well as raids on black spots and uncompleted buildings/shanties. Stop and search operations, vehicular and foot patrols are also part of our strategy.”
Adeh also highlighted specific diversion points for road users near Eid grounds, such as around the Airport Interchange to Games Village and Jabi along Airport Road into the main city.
Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh urged residents to cooperate fully with law enforcement personnel during this period, emphasizing that these deployments are solely for the safety and security of the populace.
He called on Muslim faithful in the FCT to embrace the spirit of the festival, while assuring everyone of his commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all residents.
