Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris

Comrade Nasir Idris, the Governor of Kebbi State, has issued a stern warning to those seeking to bring troublemakers into the region to incite chaos.

He delivered this message during a broadcast to the state’s residents on Friday, following the initial day of protests. The governor stated: We have received information indicating that certain individuals are attempting to import troublemakers from outside Kebbi with the intent of creating disturbances, particularly in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Jega, Yauri, and Zuru. Anyone familiar with the people of Kebbi knows they are law-abiding citizens who do not engage in protests by nature; however, there are some who wish to force this behavior for their own selfish interests.

Idris emphasized that as a responsible administration, they will not permit individuals lacking genuine concern for the community to exploit the protests for destructive acts against public utilities, businesses, and other properties.

Reports suggest that certain individuals intend to target the water board to carry out their vandalism, which is perplexing.

Why would they aim for a facility that provides water to the public? This clearly demonstrates that some individuals are attempting to disrupt the tranquility currently enjoyed by the people of Kebbi, the governor remarked.

He urged the demonstrators to recognize the importance of maintaining peace in the state and to consider halting their protest for the sake of Kebbi’s harmony and development.

Idris emphasized that damaging public infrastructure affects all residents of Kebbi, and vandalizing shops or stealing belongings ultimately harms the very community they claim to represent.

He reassured them that his administration is actively working to alleviate the challenges faced by Kebbi’s citizens. Consequently, he implored those leading the protest to reconsider their actions, noting that while they may understand their initial motivations, they cannot foresee the potential consequences.

Even if some participants have noble intentions, others might not; any destruction during these protests would ultimately be detrimental to Kebbi’s residents.

He also mentioned credible reports suggesting that protesters might target solar street lights, questioning how such actions would benefit anyone involved.
