FG, Boeing sign MoU to enhance Nigeria’s aviation sector
In a bid to address the challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector, particularly the shortage of aircraft, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boeing, a leading global aircraft manufacturer.
According to a statement by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the MoU includes comprehensive training programs for airline operations and business models aimed at improving the operational efficiency of Nigerian airlines.
Keyamo signed the agreement alongside Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, Anbessie Yitbarek, in the presence of key Nigerian aviation stakeholders, including executives from Nigerian airlines, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and the Airline Operators of Nigeria.
The agreement’s highlight is the facilitation of aircraft acquisition, with Boeing leveraging its network of financiers to assist Nigerian airlines in acquiring newer-generation aircraft to modernize their fleets. Boeing will also provide technical support, including maintenance documents, engineering drawings, and flight operations resources, to reduce downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
Additionally, Boeing will offer leadership development programs to strengthen the leadership within Nigerian airlines, support in-flight operations and maintenance, and collaborate with regional regulators and international bodies to bolster safety oversight.
Keyamo described the MoU as a critical step toward modernizing Nigerian airlines and improving the safety and reliability of air travel. Boeing’s Vice President also expressed excitement about working with Nigeria to deliver tailored solutions that will help the country’s airlines succeed on a global scale.
