The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has strongly denied recent allegations made by human rights activist Mr. Okoye Chuka Peter of the Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society (CEHRAWS), dismissing claims of injustice and arbitrary fines at its Ubakala Mobile Court in Abia State.

In a statement titled “FRSC’s Ubakala Mobile Court: Where justice is missing but fines are not,” Mr. Okoye accused the Corps of operating outside its constitutional mandate and denying road users fair legal treatment. However, the FRSC has categorically rejected the claims, describing the report as false and misleading.

According to a statement signed by J.K. Igbonekwu, Sector Public Education Officer of the Abia State Sector Command, the publication is a “baseless falsehood” and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Corps and discredit the legally constituted mobile court system.

The FRSC emphasized that all proceedings at the Ubakala Mobile Court adhere strictly to legal protocols. Offenders, the Corps stated, are duly informed of their rights, charges are clearly presented, and every individual is given the opportunity to be heard before rulings are made.

Refuting the claim that FRSC solely manages the court, the Corps clarified that the Ubakala Mobile Court is properly constituted. It includes:

  • A presiding magistrate appointed by the Abia State Judiciary,

  • A court clerk,

  • A prosecuting legal officer representing FRSC,

  • Law enforcement officers of the Corps,

  • Police officers responsible for maintaining order.

The statement further noted that any misrepresentation of the court’s proceedings could mislead the public and undermine the substantial progress made in road safety enforcement nationwide. The Corps added that it has substantial documentary and video evidence — including judicial records and attendance logs — to counter the claims.

The FRSC also revealed that it is considering legal action against the publication and its sponsors to protect its reputation and ensure accountability.
