The Kebbi State House of Assembly has suspended Hon. Mohammed Sarkin Fawa, Chairman of Fakai Local Government Area, for six months over allegations of embezzlement and misconduct.

The suspension follows Fawa’s appearance before a special investigation committee led by Hon. Salihu Dangoje, which found that he submitted false claims during its inquiry.

Hon. Dangoje, presenting the committee’s findings, stated that Fawa was implicated in the misappropriation of five electrical transformers, each valued at N2.5 million, the awarding of a fake dam construction contract to ZBBC Construction Firm, and the illegal allocation of farmlands.

The committee recommended that the Mahuta dam be rehabilitated, the five transformers be recovered by the police, and all improperly allocated farmlands be revoked. Lawmakers also directed the Vice Chairman, Hon. Ahmed Bawa Matseri, to take over the administration of the council.

The Assembly emphasized that the suspension is intended to allow further investigations and ensure accountability in the local government.
