Vice President Shettima Departs for New York to Attend 80th UN General Assembly

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York, United States, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).

According to the statement, the high-level session of the General Assembly is scheduled to take place from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28.

During the event, Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the UN General Debate and participate in a series of high-level meetings and side events with global leaders and dignitaries.

Nkwocha also revealed that Shettima will announce Nigeria’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at this year’s UN special event on climate action.

The vice president’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global cooperation on key issues such as climate change, sustainable development, peace, and security.
