Yobe Assembly Commences Review of 2026 Finance and Appropriation Bills
The Yobe State House of Assembly has fast-tracked consideration of the 2026 finance and appropriation bills presented by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The bills successfully passed the second reading on the floor of the House following extensive deliberations by members.
Leading the debate, Majority Leader Nasiru Hassan Yusuf emphasized that the Constitution empowers the legislature to scrutinize budget estimates for both recurrent and capital expenditures, ensuring due process. He noted that, once passed into law, the bills would enable the executive arm to deliver more tangible dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Several lawmakers, including Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello (Mamudo constituency) and Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa (Damaturu II constituency), described the 2026 budget proposal as one of the largest in Yobe State’s history. They commended Governor Buni for including various developmental projects that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
Presiding over the sitting, Speaker Chiroma Buba Mashio referred the bills to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative action.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Finance and Appropriation has released the timetable for the 2026 budget defense by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), signaling the next phase in the budget process.
